Athletics and Recreation

Anita Purves Nature Center

To support increased programming and visitation, the Urbana Park District commissioned IGW to expand and renovate the existing Anita Purves Nature Center in Urbana, Illinois.  The project involved a 5000 square foot addition including a new entrance, permanent exhibit hall, multi-purpose classrooms, wildlife observation room and restrooms.  The 4,200 square foot existing building was completely renovated for staff offices and educator’s resource and storage rooms.

Improvements to the site featured habitat gardens surrounding the building and a trailhead leading to the adjacent Busey Woods.  The redesigned facility serves as the centerpiece for the Urbana Park District’s mission to promote the understanding and wise stewardship of the natural environment through related recreational activities.
